SUMMARY:Jack the Bike Man Day!
DESCRIPTION:Jack the Bike Man\, invites the community to celebrate the official Jack the Bike Man Day on Friday\, October 10\, by donating bikes of all sizes at three West Palm Beach fire stations. \nThe special day\, in partnership with the City of West Palm Beach and the West Palm Beach Fire Department\, was originally established in 2018 by proclamation and this October West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James and Commissioner Christina Lambert will present Jack the Bike Man with a renewed proclamation of Jack the Bike Man Day\, honoring the nonprofit’s enduring impact and resilience. \nCollected bikes will be refurbished by Jack the Bike Man and distributed to children and adults who need them most\, turning unused bicycles into vehicles of freedom\, dignity and opportunity. \nBikes may be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the following stations: \n\nWPB Fire Station 2 – 4301 South Dixie Hwy.\nWPB Fire Station 4 – 1718 Parker Ave.\nWPB Fire Station 6 – 3033 Cumberland Dr.\n\nBased on firefighter availability\, those donating bicycles may have the opportunity to meet the firefighters and even explore a fire truck. Donation receipts will be provided to those who donate. \n“Jack the Bike Man has always been about community\, and we are incredibly grateful for the city’s leadership and support to help continue Jack’s legacy – changing lives\, one bike at a time\,” said Alejandro Hernandez\, Executive Director of Jack the Bike Man. \nThe dedicated day and community support carries an even deeper meaning in 2025 after a devastating warehouse fire earlier this year almost destroyed Jack the Bike Man. Thanks to the city and its world-class firefighters\, whose courage and quick response helped protect the organization during one of its hardest moments\, Jack the Bike Man this year carries a renewed energy\, gratitude and purpose to ensure all ages have the freedom\, confidence and tools to ride toward a better future. \nSince its founding more than two decades ago by the late Samuel “Jack” Hairston III\, Jack the Bike Man has grown into a cornerstone of service in Palm Beach County.  Its Character Counts program\, launched in 2017 in one Title 1 school\, now reaches students across nearly 50 Palm Beach County schools. Over the years\, tens of thousands of bicycles refurbished by Jack the Bike Man’s technicians have been provided to those in need in partnership with area nonprofits\, as well as through community service partnerships where people can complete volunteer hours to earn a bicycle. \nThe nonprofit also operates a successful repair and sales shop\, where those in the community can get the bicycles repaired or buy bicycle parts. Jack the Bike Man sells gently used bikes\, with all proceeds from both initiatives directly supporting the organization’s mission.
