Our rent accounts for over 17 percent of our operating budget and will increase to over twenty percent after the impending increase. Our goals in purchasing a new building include eliminating the uncertainty of a lease situation, the desire to reallocate more of our operation and resources to community programs and to properly staff our organization. We achieved the first phase of the campaign to secure a permanent home with the purchase on 2/2/21 of a historic building on 426 Claremore Drive, West Palm Beach FL 33401. The Mary Alice Fortin Foundation provided the lead gift allowing us to close on our new home. Initially renovations were estimated to be close to $2,000,000 but with the Pandemic and inflation this number has skyrocketed to $4,800,000! We are now engaged in fundraising efforts to raise these funds. Our refreshed Capital Campaign will be $10,000,000 to cover renovations to the 1925 building and also support furnishing and proper staffing for all our Children’s programs. Saving this rental income and applying it to our programs is integral to our sustainability plans. After seven moves through 5 neighborhoods over eight miles along US Highway One, Jack The Bike Man has found a permanent home in West Palm Beach.
