But the program he has worked so hard to create is now in danger of fading away into the history books.
"A lot of kids keep coming to my house and asking are you going to give away bikes, I need a bike and I want to make sure these kids get a bike."
Jack the Bike Man has been giving away bikes to needy children for seven years now, but the program is in jeopardy.
He closed his bike shop last year in hopes of selling his home and streamlining his expenses.
But after more than a year, his house is still on the market, and Jack is running out of money for his bike program.
Now the man who has helped so many, needs help himself.
"I have to pay rent for a building, I have to buy parts, I have to have a trailer to pick up bicycles, I need gasoline in the van and I need a telephone system, it costs a lot," said Jack Hairston.
Jack the Bike Man relies solely on his Social Security income.
At times, he has been left with no choice but to tell his bike recipients to come back another time.
"I maybe have run out of money this month already and I can't go buy the tube on the brake pad that is needed, I think I feel like I failed somewhere along the road," he said.
Jack is still collecting bike donations, but work has slowed down.
He hopes with a little help from the public, he will be able to continue to do what he loves.
"I want to go on with this. I want to keep Jack the Bike Man alive."
Jack hopes he can get the bike program back on track so he can provide a good Christmas this year for local children.
